he was born at what was then the Railroad Hospital (Hospital Ferroviario) of Bahía Blanca and grew up, along with her sister Mónica, in the house that her parents owned in the Barrio Obrero (neighborhood for working people) of Ingeniero White.

She attended grammar school at the Escuela Nº 13 Ruy Barbosa and high school at the Escuela General Enrique Mosconi. Thereafter she was admittted at the Universidad del Sur to study biochemistry -«It wasn’t for me», she would say– «and soon I quit».

Married to Roberto Valverde, born in Coronel Dorrego, she has a daughter named Paula who has also begun to appear as singer. Her first steps in show business were working as a model and in the sale of advertisements. Later she sang folk music and, especially, songs written by María Elena Walsh.

But destiny is unavoidable and undoubtedly tango was awaiting her, especially when she recalls: «Dad was a tango fan. He danced very well and he always encouraged me». Her debut was in the city of Bahía Blanca in September 1982 at the Peña Amigos del 2×4 Juan Carlos Cobián. She was accompanied by Hugo Marozzi on bandoneon, Ernesto (Pocho) Puefil and Pepe Amado on guitars.

She began to work at the Banco Nacional de Desarrollo and due to labor reasons she had to move, in 1985, to the branch La Rioja of that entity where she stayed until 1987. She was winner of the Festival de Cosquín in 1987, accompanied by the group known as Los caballeros de Tango, as representative of that province.

Back in Bahía Blanca, she resumed her gigs at different venues of the city and the area. At the same time she emceed a tango program with the best renditions of tango and the recordings of the best artists of popular music on a local FM radio station.

«Tango needs airing of the living people. The greats that are no longer here are always taken into account but there are many artists of this time that need a place and they are knocking doors offering their discs and have no answer», she says.

«In August 1997 I knew that María Graña had quit Casa Blanca and they were auditioning female voices... Lolita, Hugo Marcel’s wife, encouraged me and gave me the necessary help. Firstly she talked to Roberto Erbín, the art director, and later she gave him the record we cut with the Grupo Volpe». The audition was in September, one evening later, after the show, «Erbín called the pianist and I was on edge. Besides there were still people there, some tourist guides whose opinions are usually important, all the waiters and some artists. I thought that part of my future depended on that; on my mind I saw Paula’s face and I tried to do my best». With three tangos “Naranjo en flor”, “La última curda” and “Una canción” she easily succeeded and a few days later she started her tenure at that tango venue in San Telmo.

«How happy we were when we knew that: «...on Sunday April 12 we had our debut at the Sala Alfonsina Storni of the Café Tortoni with Víctor Volpe and Pichuquito on bandoneon, and a dancing couple...»

She continued her career with appearances at El Viejo Almacén and on the television screen she was seen in the Lionel Godoy’s program La noche con amigos on the state channel alongside Hugo Marcel, Virginia Luque, Abel Córdoba, Guillermo Galvé, María Volonté and Marilí Machado. She also appeared in Argentinísima on Channel 2 and on radio stations of the Greater Buenos Aires.

Since her consecration at the Festival de Cosquín as Female Tango Winner in 1987 she has appeared at the main venues of the country. She was abroad performing in Brazil, Colombia, the United States and Japan.

She sang with groups like the Grupo Volpe, Tango Contemporáneo; the Orquesta del Tango de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires conducted by Raúl Garello and Carlos García; the Orquesta Nacional de Música Argentina Juan De Dios Filiberto led by Osvaldo Piro; the Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Bahía Blanca conducted by José María Ulla; with the Carlos Buono Quintet; with José Colángelo Quintet; and the pianist Víctor Volpe, among others.

She shared the stage with Juan Carlos Schimizzi and even Roberto Goyeneche. She sang with Hugo Marcel, Ricardo Chiqui Pereyra, Alberto Podestá, Amelita Baltar, Alberto Bianco, Atilio Stampone, Luis Filipelli, and Cacho Castaña, among the most important ones.

She was awarded at the Festival Nacional Cosquín de la Canción in 1987 and a special award by the UNESCO in 1988. She regularly appears on televisión channels.

She was in the cast of the show at the Café de los Angelitos and appeared in Por Siempre Tango emceed by Silvio Soldán on Solo Tango cable channel.

In 2014 her album Esencia de tango was released. It was nominated and awarded at the Premios Gardel for best female tango artist album. He also edited El sol de Monte Hermoso, which includes other rhythms.
