t was formed in 2003 with the purpose of rescuing the vocal duo so typical of tango in the 40s.
They started including mainly the songbook performed by Dante and Martel in the orchestra headed by Alfredo de Angelis, with essential numbers like “La pastora” and “Pregonera”. Thereafter they added part of the Aníbal Troilo’s repertoire for his duos like “A unos ojos” or “El Morocho y El Oriental”, to later including the adaptation of tangos that had never been made in that setting.
In 2007 they committed to disc their work in “Tangos Valses y Milongas a Dos Voces” which also includes a Colombian bambuco, a Venezuelan joropo and a rendition of the number “Demasiada presión”, a hit of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, as a vals criollo (waltz) which was well received by the critics.
The Fuertes-Varnerín duo periodically appears at the milongas porteñas and from 2004 belongs to the cast of the Complejo Tango house —a restaurant-concert— where it appears nightly along with a tango quartet and three dancing couples under the direction of Carlos Borquez.
In 2005 they were summoned by the Cuarteto El Caburé with whom they made a tour of Colombia, appeared at the Tango Festival of Buenos Aires and at the Campeonato Mundial de Tango in 2006 and 2007 and recorded the waltz “A unos ojos” in the disc “Milongueando en el 04”.
In 2008 they were chosen at the contest of Bares Notables by the Secretaría de Cultura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires and are scheduled for the X Festival Buenos Aires Tango.
