orn in the small town Las Junturas, near Río Segundo, province of Córdoba, he began with music in his hometown by trying with instruments like drums and accordion until he finally chose piano with which he evidenced his talent and his virtuosity in playing.
Before age twenty he joined the Orquesta de Villa María and soon thereafter joined the Orquesta Los Caballeros in the provincial capital city.
He graduated at the Provincial Music Conservatory as Professor of Theory and Music Reading and as Piano Teacher of Higher Studies, very important degrees for the time. Immediately after this stage he studied Harmony and Composition in the School of Arts of the National University of Córdoba.
Before the end of 1943 he was summoned by the talented musician
Lorenzo Barbero
to join his orchestra in which he had a six-year tenure.
In the late 1949 he put together his Orquesta Típica Argentina in which he still continues as leader, arranger and orchestrator.
After its inception the orchestra kept a busy schedule by touring the country to present our urban music in towns and cities on tours that sometimes lasted a few days and, on other occasions, stretched out to two months. With musicians and singers moving over land by bus and with the leader carrying his own piano —which still accompanies him in most of his appearances—, the orchestra had no preferences and played at important venues or in small villages, many times using a trailer as bandstand in the open air and without any amplifier after driving, maybe, several tens of miles on unpaved roads.
And so it was that
Jorge Arduh
flew the flag. In his own way, with his art, he spread our popular culture to the most hidden corners of our nation. And he brought to our faraway countrymen beautiful times of joy and thrill which they still remember and long for.
Traditional tango venues in Córdoba and Buenos Aires, a large number of radio stations and successful radio programs like the Glostora Tango Club or Ronda de Ases frequently had this orchestra as their main attraction or sharing the first place of importance with aggregations led by
Alfredo Gobbi
, Juan D’Arienzo or Carlos Di Sarli, just to mention only a few of the many consecrated ones that were showcased in them.
In 1990 El Fantasista del Teclado and his Orquesta del Ritmo Brillante (The Keyboard Wizard and His Brilliant Rhythm Orchestra), labels given by the public and the tango connoisseurs long ago, traveled to Japan for the first time and this was declared as of provincial interest in Córdoba. Later there were other successful tours of the United States, Spain, Portugal and again Japan.
In 1995
Jorge Arduh
was distinguished as Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Córdoba as recognition for the brilliant career of such an important neighbor, based there for over 40 years.
In 1996 he again traveled overseas to appear in Spain, Portugal and the United States, and on that occasion he paid his first visit to Panamá.
In 1999 he celebrated the 50th anniversary of his orchestra with an exceptional appearance at the Teatro General San Martín of the city of Córdoba. On that occasion the maestro was given a new recognition by his public and by the provincial and municipal authorities.
The Orquesta Típica Argentina fronted by
Jorge Arduh
went on appearing in public and private events. It was the main attraction in successive issues of the Festival de Tango de La Falda, in which he was awarded with the recognition as «Founding Artist» of that transcendental tango event that has released more than 25 editions.
On that occasion the Maestro and his orchestra were given a warm response by the audience with a standing ovation and they requested and made
Jorge Arduh
go down from the stage to the main floor. Then the attendants expressed their admiration and love with numerous hugs and words of affection.
Throughout his show business career
Jorge Arduh
composed several pieces, generally with the contribution of poets of Córdoba and as well of his wife, Emma Sofía Saidis, whom he married in 1952. They had three children: Jorge, Orlando and Carolina.
Don
Jorge Arduh
, faithful to his land, did not like to leave it for good in order to settle in the city of Buenos Aires. That, undoubtedly, made him be ignored or underrated by many of the tango historians of Buenos Aires. But the maestro has worked seriously, as a professional, towards the others and with much love for his music and for his public throughout his life. While others preferred the comfort of the big metropolis, Arduh untiringly toured our country to bring happiness to those, like him, flew the flag, were the unknown, ignored, distant Fatherland, on roads and in towns that not always appeared in the maps.
Jorge Arduh
retired from the professional activity in 2009 with two great concerts: at the festival of La Falda and at the Teatro Libertador in the city of Córdoba. But he keeps on playing piano at home and for his friends, keeping alive that energy that always was his feature.
Jorge Arduh
, a great in music and in life.
